How to Add your Job Site to the Search Engines

Search Engines

We encourage you to finish your recruitment website and then submit it to the main search engines:

  • Google.
  • Yahoo.
  • Bing.

There is no need to worry about the affiliated search engines (e.g. Ask.com) owned by the big three above, because the data gets shared with the other search engines through the existing networks.

Only Add Your Home Page URL
Please note that you only need to submit your home page URL and it is not necessary to add each individual page. Just submit the home page and the robots / spiders (e.g. Googlebot) will take care of the other web pages.

This Submission Service is Free of Charge
There is no charge for this service, but you must register with each service provider and have a relevant free account:

What Happens Next?
How long does it take to get your website listed (indexed) on a search engine? There is no definitive answer and no guarantees are offered, however based on our years of experience, the first listing will take anywhere between a few days (sometimes within minutes or a few hours), up to around 3-4 weeks.

What happens on Google? With a brand new website and a brand new domain name, Google will normally crawl and index your website during a few different crawling sessions. In the first crawling session, the Googlebot (search robot) will typically index your home page, plus a few other random pages.

After your home page has been indexed on Google, there is no need to submit your website again and we would actually recommend that you do not submit your website again.

A few days later, all of your top-level pages will be indexed. Your top-level pages are only the pages which are visible and clickable with one click from your home page i.e. your menu button pages.

Within around one, two or three weeks, normally all of your web pages should be recorded on the Google search engine, including your job description pages.

The mobile-friendly attribute is normally applied (only if your website is deemed to be mobile-friendly by Google) within a few weeks after the first submission.

What can you do to help? Don't just sit around waiting for something magical to happen, because this is the time to market and promote your new website. In particular if you can get good quality links back to your website from other websites and also links from social media platforms, this can help the search engine indexing process and also help your overall search ranking.

What About Website Changes and New Pages?
Normally your website is re-indexed every month or so. In other words, as you make changes to your job site and add new pages or delete pages, these changes will appear on the search listings roughly every 3 or 4 weeks.

This is the reason why we suggest you complete your website, or bring it close to completion before you consider any form of search engine submission.
